Kyrgyzstan's potato imports from China surge 65-fold in 2025

Imports of potatoes from China to Kyrgyzstan surged 65-fold in January-February 2025 compared to April-May 2024, according to China's General Administration of Customs.

During the first two months of 2025, Kyrgyzstan imported 13,100 tons of fresh potatoes from China, a sharp increase from the 200 tons imported in April-May last year. After a six-month pause, potato shipments resumed in January 2025.

The value of imports also rose significantly, increasing 49 times to $11.7 million, with an average price of $0.90 per kilogram. Meanwhile, domestic potato prices in Kyrgyzstan have been rising since the beginning of the year. According to the National Statistics Committee, average prices increased by 33% from January to March 20, reaching $0.70 per kilogram.
