In February, China recorded a marked increase in fruit exports to Russia, achieving a six-year high for apple shipments and record levels for strawberries, exotic fruits, tomatoes, and peppers. Data from the Chinese statistical service, as reviewed by RIA Novosti, highlights this trend.
Russia's apple imports from China in February amounted to $8.2 million, the highest since January 2019. Import volumes rose by 1.6 times compared to the previous month and 1.7 times year-on-year.
Chinese strawberry exports to Russia also grew, reaching $1.75 million in February, the highest since May 2022, marking a 3.3-fold increase over January. Imports of exotic fruits and vegetables like guava, mangosteen, and mango surged to $2.7 million, the highest since June 2024. This represents a 1.7-fold increase from January and a 35% rise year-on-year.
Citrus fruits represented $14.5 million of the imports, while processed fruits and nuts, grapes, and nuts contributed $3.98 million, $3.88 million, and $1.4 million, respectively. These categories formed a substantial portion of Russia's fruit imports from China.
Overall, Moscow's acquisition of fruits, berries, and nuts from China in February totaled $42.9 million, reflecting a one-third increase compared to the same period last year and a 12% rise month-on-month.
