7 hectares of pointed peppers at Bel'Orta this year

First red pointed peppers of 2025 hit the market

On Friday the 28th, the first red pointed peppers of 2025 were officially sold at BelOrta. These flavourful peppers were grown by Bart Ceulemans of the horticultural company Grobar, one of Belgium's pointed pepper specialists.

Based in Berlaar, the family-run Grobar company has been growing pointed peppers since 2014. Bart Ceulemans followed in the footsteps of his father, who was a pioneer in cultivating this vegetable in Northern Europe. In addition to pointed peppers, the company also grows snack peppers and a wide range of other pepper varieties.

This year, BelOrta is cultivating around 7 hectares of pointed peppers, with an annual harvest of approximately 2 million kilos in red, yellow, and orange varieties. The peppers are available from the end of March, with their peak season running from April to October. Availability continues until November.

The peppers are sold both loose and in packaged formats such as bags and flow packs. The history of the pointed pepper at BelOrta dates back to 1995, when the first Belgian-grown pointed pepper was introduced to the market. Over the past decade, the pepper's popularity has grown exponentially.
