In recent months, there have been some difficulties in the mango market that have had a direct impact on international prices. In Peruvian regions such as Lambayeque, overproduction caused more than 800,000 tons of mangoes to be discarded due to a lack of demand and high transport costs. At the same time, competing countries such as Brazil and Mexico have increased their exports, thereby putting pressure on prices in international markets.
As a result, in February 2025, Peruvian fresh mango exports amounted to 54,390 tons worth US$ 67.9 million. These figures represent an 86% increase in terms of volume but a 12% drop in terms of value compared to February 2024, when 29,218 tons worth US$ 77.15 million were exported. The average price per kilo fell by 52.7%, from US$ 2.64 in February 2024 to US$ 1.25 in the same month this year.
Of the 30 countries to which the fruit was shipped, the United States consolidated its position as the main destination for Peruvian mangoes, with a 39% share. The U.S. received a total of 20,463 tons worth US$ 26.38 million, which represented an increase of 195% in terms of volume and of 36% in terms of value compared to the same month last year. The average price per kilo fell by 54%, from US$ 2.81 to US$ 1.29.
The Netherlands ranked second, with a 32% share. A total of 19,021 tons worth US$ 21.87 million were exported there, which represented a 22% increase in terms of volume and a 40% drop in terms of value compared to February 2024. The average price per kilo fell by 51%, from US$ 2.33 to US$ 1.15.
Spain was the third most important destination, with a 7% share. A total of 3,449 tons worth US$ 4.85 million were shipped there. This represented an increase of 138% in terms of volume but a 15% drop in terms of value compared to 2024. The average price per kilo dropped by 64%, from US$ 3.94 to US$ 1.41.
