China and Zambia have formalized an agreement to facilitate the export of Zambian macadamia nuts to China. This development was marked by a signing ceremony attended by Wang Sheng, Charge d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy, and Mtolo Phiri, Zambia's Agriculture Minister.
Wang Sheng noted that this agreement represents a step in integrating Zambian nuts into the Chinese market, potentially benefiting local farmers. He mentioned ongoing negotiations for the export of other Zambian agricultural products, including dry paprika and avocados. "I am sure that before long, more high-quality agricultural products from this country will find their way to the Chinese market," he stated.
This agreement follows commitments made during the Forum on China- Africa Cooperation in Beijing, where China pledged zero-tariff treatment for all tariff lines from the least developed countries with which it maintains diplomatic relations, including Zambia.
Wang emphasized China's market potential, citing its status as the world's second-largest economy with a population of 1.4 billion. Zambian Agriculture Minister Mtolo Phiri expressed gratitude for the access to China's market, highlighting the opportunity for Zambia to diversify its agricultural output and meet China's stringent import standards.
Phiri added that the agreement signifies Zambia's dedication to enhancing trade and investment ties, underscoring the strategic partnership with China.
