Maersk adds Trieste link for fruit and veg logistics

HHLA Italy and Maersk have initiated a new weekly shuttle service to the Port of Trieste. The E17 service's first vessel recently docked at this terminal. This maritime link between Port Said, Trieste, and Venice enhances the Mediterranean logistics network, highlighting the role of Trieste port.

The service utilizes vessels Nora Maersk, Maersk Valletta, and Maersk Valparaíso. Trieste, as the initial port of call post-Egypt, bolsters the terminal's capabilities in handling reefer cargo, particularly fruit and vegetables bound for Central and Eastern European markets.

To accommodate sector demands, HHLA PLT Italy has invested in cold chain logistics, planning to expand reefer services. The terminal's Border Inspection Point offers an advantage by streamlining sanitary and veterinary inspections for imported cargo.

The service includes transshipment operations, transferring some containers via a feeder service on barges to Ancona and Ravenna ports, optimizing Adriatic coast distribution. This logistics solution improves connectivity between markets, reduces transit times, and enhances supply chain resilience in the Eastern Mediterranean.
