"Limes that would go to the U.S. are now going to end up in Europe"

At the moment, there is good availability for limes from all over the globe, says Audrik Victoria, who works for the Portuguese produce exporter: "The supply for lime has been high, with many countries exporting to Europe, such as Brazil, Peru, Colombia, and Vietnam. Right now, Vietnam has been highlighted with a new plastic box of 15 kg. With the new U.S. tariffs on Mexico and other Latin American countries, we predict that much of the flux of limes that would go to the U.S. is now going to end up in Europe. Nonetheless, we still expect Brazilian limes to succeed compared to other origins, due to the higher available volume."

Although supply is at a good level, the demand is lacking a bit. Victoria expects this to improve once the weather gets better. "Right now, the demand is still calm, with only countries like Spain, Italy, Greece, France, and Portugal importing the limes. This trend will likely change with the arrival of summer, when countries in Scandinavia and the Baltic region will start ordering more limes, due to the warmer weather conditions."

"In the last couple of weeks, the prices have risen from 1,00 to 2,00 euros, selling at 7,00 euros per box. For the coming weeks, we expect the prices to rise to 10,00 and maybe up to 12,00 per box for one or two weeks, the same as it was last year. However, due to the new flux of limes coming from Mexico, that will keep the price below 11,00 euros per box."

At the moment, Victoria is trying to find more buyers for limes of category 2, he explains: "The main challenge we have been facing is finding demand for category 2 limes. The current market is saturated with limes of this quality, and it has been difficult to navigate the market with them. We have been trying to reach juice companies that would been willing to buy category 2 limes."
