Hai Duong nears spring vegetable target with 9,800 hectares planted

According to the provincial Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection in Vietnam, Hai Duong has planted approximately 9,800 hectares of spring vegetables as of April 9, achieving 98% of the target. This marks a 5% increase compared to the same period last year.

In six out of twelve districts, towns, and cities, spring vegetable cultivation has surpassed targets by 1.5% to 16.8%. These areas include Nam Sach, Kim Thanh, Binh Giang, Gia Loc, Thanh Mien districts, and Kinh Mon town. Thanh Ha district has met its target with 850 hectares. Other districts and Hai Duong City have achieved between 80% and 97.3% of their plans.

This season, farmers in Hai Duong primarily focus on growing green vegetables over 5,409 hectares, alongside 1,576 hectares of various melons, 1,201 hectares of corn, and additional areas for tomatoes, squash, and chili.

Harvesting has commenced for several crops, such as cabbage, kohlrabi, cauliflower, cucumber, corn, and chili. The market conditions and vegetable prices remain stable, contributing to farmers' profitability. Other crops are progressing with fewer pest and disease issues compared to the previous year.

In Bac An commune, Chi Linh city, farmers are applying pesticides on corn and peanut fields. Favorable weather conditions support the expansion of spring vegetable cultivation, with a provincial goal to exceed 10,000 hectares. Experts advise farmers to maintain regular field monitoring to manage soft rot, silkworms, and flea beetles.
