China plans to import 120,000 tons of Bangladeshi mangoes

China has shown interest in procuring 120,000 tons of mangoes from Chapainawabganj, Bangladesh. This development follows a visit by Chinese importer Shu Wei to mango orchards in Shibganj, where he observed the mango grading, sorting, and cleaning processes.

Ahsan Habib, a farmer from Shibganj, noted, "A Chinese importer visited my orchard in the afternoon. He expressed interest in buying mangoes directly from the orchard. If we can export mangoes directly to China without intermediaries, it will greatly benefit us as farmers."

Ismail Khan Shamim, General Secretary of the Shibganj Mango Producers Cooperative Society Limited, stated, "Chinese importers have visited several mango orchards in Chapainawabganj and expressed their desire to buy mangoes directly from us."

Agriculture Officer Nayan Mia confirmed the scale of the proposed purchase, saying, "A Chinese importer visited some mango orchards in our upazila in the afternoon. They want to buy 120,000 metric tons of mangoes from Chapainawabganj."

The potential agreement with China could enhance Chapainawabganj's position in the global mango market, known for varieties like Lyangra, Fazli, and Gopalbhog. This deal may provide fair prices and direct benefits to local farmers.
