The challenging time of COVID-19 pushed TAPKIT to provide its services remotely. The TAPKIT is a 500 m2 hydroponic unit, which can produce 6-12 tons of leafy vegetables and fresh herbs per year. Four of these hydroponic system units are now in construction in the Philippines, while the instruction and supervision provided directly from TAPKIT offices in Israel. To do so, TAPKIT signed a long term agreement with Hijo Resources from Mindanao, for the installation of TAPKITs all around the Philippines in the coming years.
Shipping to the Philippines
"The first 4 units shipped to the Philippines, in March, when the COVID pandemic just started" says Elran Yaakobi, projects manager at TAPKIT. "We had to find way how to prevent any delay of installation, as the market in the Philippines has a growing demand for hydroponic produce".
TAPKIT provided HIJO's technical team, a detailed construction manual, short videos, and drawings. "Above all" says Elran, "daily video calls, and a very active Whatsapp group, create great team work, and we believe that we will start planting lettuces and fresh herbs, 4-5 weeks after the beginning of the installation."
App support
The next challenge will be the agronomic training and support. "For this part, we are lucky that we already have the i-Droponics, our mobile App for the training and support of the TAPKIT operator. With videos, production protocol, fertilization formula, hundreds of FAQs and harvest forecast tool, we are sure that the remote training will work smoothly", says Ron Ahiraz, Agronomist from TAPKIT.
