Peach market reaches peak period in late July

Second harvest of Nanhui honey peaches enters Chinese market

The second harvest of Nanhui honey peaches recently entered the Chinese market. Their product quality is better than last year, but the production volume is smaller. According to the Pudong New District Agricultural Association, the overall surface area devoted to Nanhui honey peach plantation in Pudong New District is around 1,733 hectares and the annual production volume is more than 26 thousand tons.

The production volume is slightly smaller than last year because some surface area has been appropriated for development and some of the older trees had to be replaced with younger ones. The peaches ripened 5 days earlier than last year because the winter was quite warm, temperatures remained high, and there was sufficient sunshine. The peaches entered the market on the 6th of July and the peak period will take place between the 10th and the 25th of July.

The cost price of agricultural resources and labor wages both increased this year, but the price of Nanhui brand honey peaches remained the same. The peaches come in different sizes, including a box of 8 peaches (each 250 grams or more), 12 peaches (each 225 grams or more), and a 5-kg bag (each 180 grams or more). The retail price is around 140 yuan [20.03 USD] per box.
