Hainan flight HU797 carried 21.2 tons of agricultural products from Meilan International Airport in Haikou to Sydney International Airport on the 9th of June. This marked the first step in a regular air route between Hainan and Australia. This first flight primarily carried common products and electronics. The regular air route will consist of a Boeing 787-9, which will make three 20-hour return flights on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
Haikou to Sydney will be the second regular intercontinental air route for Hainan Airlines after their first regular air route to Paris. The regular route to Sydney allows for the transshipment of manufactured goods from the wider Hong Kong region and commercial products from the lower Yangzi region via Hainan to Australia. Fruits and vegetables from Hainan can take advantage of this regular air route to cross the ocean and reach the Australian market. In return, Australia supplies the Chinese market with milk powder, health preservatives, and electronics. These products will enter China via Hainan, from where they are distributed to major cities throughout the country.
The establishment of this regular air route enriches Sino-Australian trade channels and helps Hainan become an international distribution center.
