A wide variety of Thai fruit is currently available in the Chinese market. The two main import fruits are durian and mangosteen. Everybody knows that Thailand is the world's largest exporter of fresh durian. Thailand set a new durian export record in May this year. Although the production volume of durian expanded this season, there is still not enough supply to satisfy the growing market demand. Market demand continues to exceed supply.
"Thailand can export durian to China all year round. The peak period of the durian export season begins in April and continues until October. The Chinese market price of Thai durian steadily rises. The overall price is much higher than last year. We mainly sell Mon Thong [Golden Pillow] durian. And we mainly supply these durian to group buyers and e-commerce platforms." This is according to Mr. Wang Ruilong of Shaanxi Jiafeng Vegetables and Fruit Trade Co., Ltd.
Thai durian
Mr. Wang Ruilong further explained: "Everybody knows that most of the imported durians in the Chinese market come from Thailand and Malaysia. However, the volume from Thailand has consistently grown larger in the last few years. Also, the production volume in Thailand is much larger than in Malaysia, which helps Thai durian suppliers guarantee a steady supply and a stable price. In addition, Malaysia primarily grows Musang King durian. Thailand grows a wider variety of durian and is better able to satisfy the diverse taste of different consumer groups. Among Mon Thong, Chanee, and Kanyao durian, the Mon Thong is the most popular in the Chinese market. More than 95% of the Chinese import volume of Thai durian consists of Mon Thong durian."
Thai mangosteen
The sales conditions of Thai mangosteen are very different from Thai durian. The mangosteen export season is in full swing in Thailand. Most of the supply currently comes from the east of Thailand. "The new season already began some time ago. We predict that the supply season will continue for two more months. The sales conditions are not great this season, especially now that the supply volume is growing. The price continuously declines."
