Exports for the new season will start in mid-to-late December

Demand for Chinese ginger begins to recover

Entering December, the approach of Christmas has not brought a significant boost to ginger exports in China. At this stage, the overall export volume is limited. The reason is that the supply of high-quality ginger is limited, and after the container arrives at the destination, the trade risk of customers making large claims is relatively high. Recently, Jason Jiang, the sales manager of Anqiu Tailai Foods Co., Ltd, shared his views on the market with Freshplaza.

"Compared with previous production seasons, the price of this year's new season ginger is rather high. This is mainly due to the impact of frequent rainfall in July and August, a large number of gingers were flooded, and the output was greatly reduced. Currently, the price of arriving at the destination ports is around US$2,400 per ton, and the price will change later with the launching of a new round of the export season." said Jason.

As far as the upcoming new ginger export season is concerned, judging from the current situation, the export of ginger in the new production season will start in the middle and late December, starting with the fresh ginger that is mainly sent to Europe, and then air-dried ginger, which will start shipping in early January.

Jason is full of confidence in the market prospects for the next period of time. According to him, "Now, China is gradually loosening controls related to the pandemic and the demand for ginger has begun to recover. Coupled with the reduction in production, these factors will largely stimulate the price rise."
