Sales of Chinese garlic have been increasing since September. It is expected that in the next period of time, the price of garlic will break through the highest point of the year. Especially as holidays such as New Year's Day are approaching, the holiday effect will largely boost the market, and a wave of export peaks will come before the Spring Festival. Recently, Mr. Lee from Pioneer Garlic Group shared his insights on the market with FreshPlaza.
According to him: "The current export price has dropped by more than 30% compared with the same period last year. Taking the 5.0# garlic as an example, the export price at this stage is 4,500 RMB per ton, while the export price in the same period last year was 6,000 RMB per ton. It is gratifying that thanks to the recovering demand and affordable prices, the export volume is significantly more than in the same period last year. Judging from the current situation, the price of garlic will continue to rise in the later period.”
In the past few months, China has gradually adjusted its pandemic control policies, and in December, basically, all control measures have been canceled. Regarding the impact on exports, Mr. Lee said, "After the pandemic prevention and control measures were lifted, garlic can be shipped normally, and logistics and transportation have become smoother. At the same time, the catering industry has gradually resumed. This is good for the long run. But on the other hand, people are also afraid of infection and the flow of people in the market decreased significantly, which is bound to have a certain degree of impact on the market."
In terms of export volume, Pioneer Garlic Group's garlic is currently mainly exported to South American and European markets.
