Another smuggling operation halted at Mindanao Container Terminal

Filipinos intercept smuggled onions at Port of Subic

According to Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (Sinag) President Rosendo So, 17 containers with smuggled goods at the Port of Subic Bay in Olongapo City on Wednesday. So said: "At least nine container vans were seized on Tuesday, and Wednesday. There are at least 17 [containers]. Among those confiscated were beef, pork, fish, mackerel, bread, white onions, buffalo meat and squid."

So said that based on his estimate, one container contained at least 25 metric tons of white onions, amounting to P7.5 million. He claimed the smuggled agricultural products came from China.

At the same time, So said that Agriculture Assistant Secretary for Inspectorate and Enforcement James Layug is scheduled to file charges against two consignees behind the illegal entry of white onions and carrots for violation of Republic Act 10845 or the "Anti-Agricultural Smuggling Act."

Another smuggling operation halted at Mindanao Container Terminal 
The Bureau of Customs (BoC) busted another attempt to smuggle P20-millions worth of onions into the country through the Mindanao Container Terminal (MCT) Port in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.

Customs Commissioner Yogi Filemon Ruiz disclosed on Thursday that the two container-load of smuggled onions came from China and were misdeclared as bread and pastries.
