With immediate effect, ALDI SUISSE is stopping completely with the flying in of fruit and vegetables, thus making its supply chains even more sustainable. In addition, ALDI SUISSE is a pioneer on the Swiss market in promoting local strawberry producers and has been advertising strawberries only during the Swiss strawberry season since last year.

No more air-freighted fruit and vegetables at ALDI SUISSE
At the beginning of the year, ALDI SUISSE is putting its money where its mouth is and taking action. With immediate effect, the Swiss retailer is completely doing away with air-freighted fruit and vegetables. The amount of goods imported by air has already decreased significantly in recent years. Gradually, the items concerned have been switched to more climate-friendly transport alternatives. As of the beginning of 2023, ALDI SUISSE has completed the changeover and achieved the goal of no longer flying in fruit and vegetables.
"Sustainability in supply chains is a central pillar of the ALDI philosophy. For example, one of our goals was to make all of our fruit and vegetables air transport-free. It fills me with pride that we have now achieved this goal," says a delighted Jérôme Meyer, Country Managing Director of ALDI SUISSE. By not flying in fruit and vegetables, the company, whose sites have already been carbon neutral on balance sheet since 2017, is further reducing CO2 emissions.
Strawberry promotions only during the Swiss strawberry season
ALDI SUISSE is not setting an example through the abolition of air-freighted goods. The company is also taking a pioneering role in the market when it comes to promoting Swiss agriculture. Since last year, for example, ALDI SUISSE has been advertising strawberries only during the Swiss strawberry season. Thanks to this step, the Swiss retailer not only strengthens domestic berry producers, but also promotes seasonal understanding among consumers.
