Chinese fruit retailer Pagoda strives for global expansion

China's biggest fruit retailer, Shenzhen Pagoda Industrial (Group), is continuing to grow, operating more than 5,000 stores across the country. The Shenzhen-based company has diversified its selling channels, including online, and listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in January, with plans to expand overseas.

Pagoda sells a variety of fruits with ranks including grade A and grade B, depending on freshness and other criteria. For example, 550 grams of grade B imported bananas cost about 7.5 yuan ($1.09) and 650 grams of grade A bananas are about 18 yuan. Grade A bananas can be up to 50% more expensive than those at competitors.
