The cold and rainy spring has caused a shortage of stone fruit in Ukraine

This year, Ukraine can't count on a large harvest of early fruits and berries

This summer, there will be a lack of apricots, cherry plums, and early sweet cherries. The harvest of plums, cherries, and late sweet cherries is also uncertain as it depends on the weather in the second half of May.

Apricots and cherry plums were most affected by the weather. The growth process of fruit was delayed due to the windy, cold, and rainy weather at the beginning of May. Many areas of the country saw fungal diseases in apricots due to the April rains during the blooming period.

The high prices of sweet cherries can be explained by the shortage and the consequent higher prices of imported sweet cherries from Spain, which can cost up to 25 euros per kilogram. Also, Ukraine imports apricots and cherry plums from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan and sells them for up to 5 euros.
