Entering June, it is the ripening season of the Xianju Bayberry. It is reported that the Xianju Bayberry started to sell last week, and the Dongkui Bayberry will be on the market in mid-June. Including bayberries grown on the plains and mountains, the production season can last until late July.
Xianju Junlang Planting Professional Cooperative is mainly engaged in the planting and sales of Xianju Bayberry. On June 8 this year, the first batch was released. Mr. Ying Jun, from the company, said that compared with last year's sharp reduction in production, due to bad weather, this year's harvest is more optimistic despite the recent dry weather: "The temperature in the early stage of this year's production season was moderate, and the fruit-setting was going well. In the middle and late May, there was a continuous drought and lack of rain, and many bayberries were sunburned, resulting in a reduction in production, but the overall situation is still better than last year."
It is understood that last year, the Xianju Bayberry fell due to continuous rain during flowering, and the high temperature caused the fruit to wither just after the fruit was born. The extreme weather reduced production by two-thirds, and many small-scale farmers had almost no harvest. The sharp reduction in production made the price very high last year. "In previous years, the production and price of Xianju Bayberries were relatively stable. Last year can be said to be the most special year in history. Although there was a reduction in production this year, the current output and price are better."
"In view of last year's weather conditions, the local government is trying to protect this important pillar industry. According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, there may be high temperatures and less rain in the picking season in June this year. The government department has issued a notice that in case of extreme weather during June 1-30, the local area will carry out artificial rainfall procedures to reduce the impact of the weather."
It is understood that the price currently is basically the same as in the past, because this variety is more resistant to weather effects, while another variety, Dongkui Bayberry, is more easily affected. "Dongkui Bayberries will be on the market in mid-June, depending on the actual situation in the next week. It is expected that the price this year will be lower than last year, and if the weather is stable and the production is normal, there is a chance to gradually return to normal prices."
This year's bayberry is on the market close to the traditional Chinese festival, the Dragon Boat Festival (June 22 this year). Ying said that there have been many orders for business gifts, and the market prospects are promising.
