The news that Hainan durians will be on the market this year has attracted the attention of the industry and consumers. According to relevant reports, the durian planting base in Yucai Ecological District, Sanya City has entered a countdown. Around June 20, a small number of durians will be picked, and more domestic durians will be ready in mid-July. However, since this year is the first year of fruiting of domestic durians, there is not much volume, and tasting will be the main goal.
According to the introduction, the domestically produced durians in Hainan are expected to be on the market from the end of June until August, but this does not mean that ordinary consumers will be able to buy Hainan durians. Since this batch of durian trees is too young and the output is too small to achieve mass production, it is basically a negligible hype concept for the entire domestic durian market.
According to the JD Supermarket, Hainan durians will be pre-sold, and hundreds of durians will be put on the market one after another, but the prices will definitely not be cheap.
At present, the Monthong durian from Thailand, which is the most popular in the domestic market, costs ¥40-60/kg, and the Musang King from Malaysia costs ¥300-400 each. The current price of durian is still too high for most consumers. With the arrival of domestic durians, many people have begun to look forward to "the freedom of consuming durians". The so-called "freedom" actually covers multiple dimensions, not just the reduction of prices. Although the realization of "freedom" is not an unattainable goal, there is still a long way to go.
Before a large number of domestic durians come on the market, the early price may be hyped up. In the short term, the price of domestic durians will definitely not be low, and it will even be much higher than imported durians. Some experts pointed out that the realization of "freedom" requires large-scale production to drive down prices. First, the price is low, and second, the supply must be sufficient. It is estimated that Hainan durian will grow to 100,000 mu, around 6,666 hectares, in three to five years, and when it reaches 30-50% of the total scale, the price may be between ¥20-40/kg. At that time, the price of domestic durian may drop.
From the perspective of the market, no matter whether it is domestic durian or imported durian, the overall price is the same. The price depends not only on the quantity but also on the quality and luck.
Compared with imported durians, domestic durians are still inferior at present, and there is no price advantage in the short term. In addition, durians in Guangxi are also in the planting stage, and durian planting areas in Shanglin County and other regions have not yet produced fruit. It is expected that there will be no significant impact or threat on imported durians in the short term.
