According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the prices of most types of vegetable products in Russia are currently lower than last year. Prices for potatoes are lower by 43.8%, beets by 25.3%, carrots by 19.7%, and tomatoes by 5.7%. Apples are currently 16.8% cheaper than the previous year.
In addition, prices for some specific products have continued to decrease over the past week. Potatoes decreased by 0.2%, beets by 4%, cucumbers by 3.7%, and tomatoes by 1.3%.
The Ministry of Agriculture highlighted that the price situation in the fruit and vegetable market is stable.
However, Irina Akimova from BGP Litigation mentioned that the current vegetables being sold are from the early season, as last year's supply has already run out. These vegetables are sourced from both southern regions of Russia and neighbouring countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. This leads to additional logistics costs and a relatively small supply volume. Akimova predicts that the situation should normalize in a couple of weeks with the widespread availability of the new harvest.
