Uzbekistan plans to expand its agricultural product exports to Russia by the end of 2023, reported a representative from the country's Ministry of Agriculture. This announcement was made during a two-day high-level international conference on food security held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, with technical support from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.
The official stated, "By the end of the year, the volume of agricultural product exports to Russia will increase through the expansion of its range." The expansion includes quince, pears, dates, frozen fruits, cabbage, sweet peppers, onions, and garlic from Uzbekistan.
It should be noted that mutual agricultural product trade between the two countries reached $1.5 billion in 2022 compared to $1.1 billion in 2021 years. According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, from January to August this year, fruit and vegetable exports from Uzbekistan to Russia amounted to approximately $370 million. The main share in it was peaches (14%), cherries (11%), apricots (8%), and onions (7%).
