Successful banana and mango cultivation in Jaffna, Sri Lanka

The sour banana cultivation project and the TEJC mango project, started in Jaffna under the Agriculture Sector Innovation Project, have become very successful. Sour banana is grown on 200 acres, and TEJC mango is planted on 500 acres in Jaffna at present. Along with the Rajangana sour banana project, about 10 tons of sour bananas are exported to the Dubai market once a week.

Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera: “Both these projects are very successful. We have decided to further expand these two projects. Under the high density cultivation method, we are introducing that cultivation method to get the maximum yield from the land area.”

“Both these mango and sour banana projects have become top dollar-earning projects for the country,” Amaraweera added.
