Hoping to stabilize prices

Indian government decides to infuse 100,000 tons of onions into retail market

The Indian government has decided to infuse 100,000 tons of onions into the retail market this month to stabilize the prices. Secretary of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs Rohit Kumar Singh said that the government has learned that the retail intervention is more effective than the wholesale market. He added that the government has identified some retail markets in the country where the onion will be released.

As per the government data, the average price of onions in the retail market in Delhi hovered at Rs 70 to 80 rupees per kg. In other parts of the country the price ranges between Rs 41 to 69 per kg.
