Indonesia's tropical climate provides an ideal environment for growing mangosteen, which thrives in warm and humid conditions, with temperatures ranging from 25 to 35 degrees Celsius.
Stevan Budi Susanto is responsible for international sales at Pt. Citra Tama Jaya Indo. He explains how Indonesian mangosteen is taking over the market in East Asia now Thailand production is coming to and end: "Mangosteen farmers in Subang, Tasikmalaya, and Jember are currently in the midst of a successful harvest. Despite the onset of the rainy season in Indonesia, the weather has remained favorable, ensuring the survival of the mangosteen fruit".
Stevan continues: "The current quality of the harvest is commendable, attributed to the moderate strength of the rain. However, there is a concern that if the rain intensifies, the vulnerability of the mangosteen fruit to internal damage may increase."
Highlighting the robust export market, our company continues to be a major player, with China being the primary destination. Guangzhou and Shanghai serve as key hubs, with Guangzhou handling container shipments and Shanghai managing airfreight quantities.
Stevan: "Commencing exports to China in November and extending until the following year, our company is committed to meeting a weekly target quota of 3 containers of 40rf each, as specified by our buyers".
An interesting trend in the market is the shift of Chinese buyers from Thailand to Indonesia. With Thailand experiencing a decline in its mangosteen harvest, many buyers in China are turning to Indonesian suppliers for their fruit needs. This shift underscores the reliability and quality of Indonesia's mangosteen harvest in meeting the demands of the international market.
