The new season of ginger was harvested in October. It is reported that the output and quality of ginger this season are better than last year, and the current price is about 30% lower than the same period last year. Most of the ginger is being stored in cold storage and will be exported in large quantities in late December.
"The high price of ginger last year made farmers pay more attention to planting, and the quality of ginger in the new season is better. At the same time, the planting area and output per unit area have increased, and the total output this season has increased by about one-third. On the other hand, due to the increase in production and the global economic environment, the current price of ginger has dropped by about 30% year-on-year, and the export price is more than 1,000 US dollars per ton." Shandong Taifeng Commercial Group Co., Ltd. is mainly engaged in the procurement, storage and export of ginger," said Sherry Feng from the company.
"At present, the ginger skin of new ginger is soft and easy to peel off, and the tip has not yet healed, so mass sales have not yet begun. Usually after the Winter Solstice in the Chinese lunar calendar (this year is late December in the new calendar), the ginger's skin heals better, and large quantities of exports will begin. The market now uses less old ginger in stock because the price is high, and it has been stored for a long time. Customers are waiting for the sale of new ginger." Sherry said that orders are usually concentrated on New Year's Day and the eve of the Chinese New Year when ginger prices and sales volume will increase.
"There are currently few purchase orders. Although the new ginger is easy to peel, because the current price is low, buyers are worried that the market will decline, so they are staying on the sidelines for the time being. Currently, there are only a few purchases for short-distance shipments to Malaysia, and the Middle East. However, the market outlook this year is optimistic, and the number of inquiries being received now is more than last year, including from markets with large procurement volumes, such as Bangladesh and Pakistan. Moreover, the price of Chinese ginger is lower this year and the quality is better. I believe that the ginger market trend will be good this year."
Shandong Taifeng’s categories include preserved ginger, air-dried ginger, and salted ginger. Its main export markets are Europe, the Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Americas, and its business covers the world.
