The 9th edition of the International Fruit Business Conference, held on December 7th and 8th in Chisinau, Moldova, brought together over 200 fruit industry professionals from around the globe. This annual event has become a platform for collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and exploring the latest trends in the global fruit industry, Iurie Fala of Moldova Fruct explains:
“This year's conference provided producers with valuable insights from international experts on technological advancements in fruit production, quality standards, and packaging trends. With 27 out of 40 speakers being international specialists, the exchange of knowledge and expertise was aimed at enhancing the overall efficiency and competitiveness of Moldova's fruit industry.”
According to Fala, a noteworthy feature of the event was the Business-to-Business panel discussions, where fruit importers from Germany, the Netherlands and Kenya engaged in conversations with local producers. “Topics included the upcoming season harvests, delivery conditions, and logistical considerations. The collaborative nature of these discussions underlined the conference's influence in expanding our exports map.”
Overall the past year has been good for Moldovan fresh produce exports, Fala states: “The year 2023 marked a significant milestone for the Moldovan fruit producers and exporters. Record quantities of cherries, plums, and table grapes were successfully exported, with a higher demand registered in the European Union market. The Republic of Moldova exported an impressive 16.7 thousand tons of cherries, 78 thousand tons of plums and 55 thousand tons of table grapes by the end of November 2023.”
“The success of Moldovan fruit exports was achieved thanks to strategic investments in production technologies, post-harvest equipment, market-aligned packaging, and producers’ concerted efforts in promoting the country brand ‘Moldova – taste makes the difference’ on the international stage. Traditionally held at the end of the year in Chisinau, the Fruit Business Conference has become a key event on the business calendar of the horticulture industry. Registrations for next year’s participation are now open and companies ready to seize this opportunity are encouraged to reach out to the Moldova Fruct Association. Join us in shaping the future of business and collaboration at the Fruit Business Conference in 2024!” Fala concludes.
