Man who weighed prime beef cuts as bananas appears before court

Stephen Brennan, 31, appeared before Longford District Court for stealing beef from a supermarket by misrepresenting it as bananas at the self-service till. Charged with theft of a fillet and a round roast of beef from Davis SuperValu on two separate occasions, Brennan employed a tactic where he scanned the beef as cheaper bananas, with the items valued at €10.49 and €13.99.

Sgt. Mark Mahon presented the case, while defense solicitor Brid Mimnagh explained Brennan's challenging background, including a history in foster care, recent homelessness, and financial struggles, which led to his inability to afford the beef legitimately. Brennan is currently residing in Roscommon.
