Taiwan imposes one-month import ban on strawberries from five Japanese suppliers

The Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) has announced a one-month import ban on strawberries from five Japanese suppliers starting from January 12, following multiple failed pesticide residue standard checks. TFDA Deputy Director-General Lin Chin-fu revealed that 10 out of 216 Japanese strawberry shipments, equivalent to 4.63%, failed inspections since November 2023. These shipments originated from five suppliers who will have their import inspection applications suspended for a month.

This is the first time that the TFDA has enforced such a severe penalty on Japanese strawberries. The agency will also increase scrutiny on all Japanese strawberries until April 30, employing on-site verification and sampling analysis.
