Japan has set its sights on increasing its exports of agricultural goods, with a particular emphasis on its esteemed fruits. This strategy was unveiled by the Japanese Ambassador to Qatar, Satoshi Maeda, at the commencement of the Japanese Fruits Week.
The event, which runs until January 22, showcases a wide variety of Japanese fruit products, among them crown melon, strawberries, organic Anno sweet potato, grape, apple, lemon and more.
In his speech, Ambassador Maeda underscored Japan’s capacity to cultivate a wide array of fruits and vegetables, attributing this to its rich geographical diversity and natural environment. He noted that the rising trend in foreign exports mirrors the worldwide recognition of Japanese producers' dedication to safety and security, as well as the superior taste of their products.
Despite acknowledging the high cost of Japanese fruits, the ambassador expressed confidence in the Qatari people's preference for luxury goods, drawing a parallel with high-end Japanese brands such as Lexus.
Various Japanese officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, along with local and international entrepreneurs, attended the event. A fruit tasting session allowed participants to experience the rich flavours and freshness of Japanese fruits.
