According to some sources, Kuwaiti farmers are dumping their agricultural products in garbage containers due to inadequate government backing. The lack of support is particularly felt when farmers fail to sell their products to intermediary traders. Citizens and farmers appealed to the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Union of Consumer Cooperative Societies, and the Kuwait Farmers Union to endorse Kuwaiti products in the markets and permit farmers to sell directly to cooperative societies.
Kuwaiti citizen Bou Saud exposed that local agricultural products are being dumped due to state neglect. He expressed disappointment at the significant price difference between the market and cooperative societies. Saud called for the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to intervene and protect the local products.
Another citizen, Fahad Abdul Rahman, echoed Saud's sentiments, emphasizing the need for state support to expand the agricultural sector. Saleh Al-Otaibi, a local farmer, urged authorities to consistently back Kuwaiti products to prevent wastage. He suggested that farmers should be allowed to sell directly to cooperative societies and parallel markets, instead of being forced to sell to merchants.
Al-Otaibi highlighted that the current system primarily benefits intermediary traders, leading to losses for farmers. He revealed that he has resorted to planting nurseries, as vegetable farming has become unprofitable.
