In 2023, Tajikistan saw a surge in imports of potatoes and fruits, despite reports from the Committee on Food Security indicating a rise in domestic production of these items.
Despite a record fruit harvest of around 665,000 tons, marking a 30% increase from 2022, imports also soared, with over 44,000 additional tons imported, totalling 6,700 tons more than the previous year.
While Tajikistan boasted a record potato harvest of over 1.1 million tons according to statistical data, paradoxically, potato imports also spiked by 43,000 tons. Compared to 2,800 tons imported in 2022, 46,000 tons were imported in 2023 from Russia, Pakistan, and others.
