Iran's pomegranate export value sees over 120% increase in eight months

Iran's pomegranate exports have seen a significant increase of over 120 percent in value during the first eight months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-November 21, 2023), compared to the same period last year, according to Zahra Jalili-Moqaddam, the director-general of the tropical and semi-tropical fruits office of Iran’s Agriculture Ministry. The country exported 12,600 tons of pomegranate worth approximately six million dollars during this period, representing a 70 percent growth in weight year on year.

Pomegranate cultivation spans about 96,500 hectares of land in Iran. The country ranks third globally in terms of pomegranate production. Orchards are crucial in the production of export agricultural products in Iran, with horticulture being the primary sector in the country’s agricultural export.

Agro-food exports rise 22% in 10 months on year
In the first ten months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2023-January 20, 2024), Iran's agricultural and foodstuff exports experienced a 22% increase. The top five exported food and agricultural products were dairy products ($561.4 million), pistachios ($478.7 million), tomatoes ($255.4 million), apples ($248.7 million), and fishery products ($244.9 million).
