Vietnam's fruit exports soared to US$510 million in January, marking a 24.9% increase from December 2023 and a staggering 112.1% rise from January of the previous year, data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reveals. Despite challenges in 2023, the fruit sector saw remarkable growth, with durian exports alone reaching a record US$2.2 billion, a 430.1% increase year-over-year. Other fruits like dragon fruit, bananas, jackfruit, and mangoes also contributed significantly to the industry's success.
Industry experts remain optimistic about the future, noting Vietnam's efforts to diversify export markets, including the United States, the EU, Australia, and the Republic of Korea, and to negotiate the entry of more fruits into the Chinese market through official channels. To sustain growth, experts recommend a shift in mindset and management practices, emphasizing the need for raw material zones to ensure stable supply and leveraging free trade agreements to expand market reach.
