The Commerce Ministry of Thailand is actively collaborating with international fruit importers and delving into the futures market, preparing to initiate over 35 projects designed to elevate Thai agricultural commodities and stabilize prices year-round. At a recent event in Bangkok, Commerce Minister Phumtham Wechayachai unveiled a business-matching scheme for fresh, processed fruit, and other agricultural goods to mitigate trade barriers, drawing participants from 19 countries for pre-harvest trading of Thai produce. The gathering aimed to counteract the recurring issue of crop surpluses through effective management to benefit national and international stakeholders.
Phumtham highlighted the initiative's success in fostering partnerships between Thai exporters, foreign businesses, and government bodies, leading to five trade agreements valued at over 2 billion baht. He emphasized the integration of digital content with agricultural products to enhance their marketability and value. The government's commitment to revising restrictive business laws and promoting collaborations between large and small enterprises was also underscored. Phumtham further noted the importance of adhering to global trade standards, including sustainability and product origin, as Thai businesses navigate international markets.
