Utilizing greenhouses, the park has successfully accelerated the maturation process of cherry trees, enabling an early harvest. Liu Xiankuan, head of the park, highlighted the development of five varieties of potted cherries, which have attracted preorders from major cities. This method contrasts with the traditional cherry growing season in North China, typically beginning in May.
The transition from conventional to precision agriculture has been facilitated by the integration of new technologies, ensuring the cherries are larger, more colorful, and sweeter by February. The role of reliable electricity in supporting this agricultural evolution is emphasized by Guo Xiaojing, general manager of the Xin'an branch at State Grid Corp of China. The company has focused on enhancing the rural power grid to meet the specific needs of the cherry cultivation industry.
By adopting smart greenhouse technologies and precise water and fertilizer management, farmers can now control the growth cycles of cherry trees more effectively. This not only extends the selling season but also improves economic outcomes, turning cherries into a lucrative crop for the region. The advancements in electrification and temperature control technologies have been quite important in bringing these cherries to market earlier in the season.
