In 2021, the groundwork was laid for a new venture in the agricultural landscape: a greenhouse operation that yields fresh and healthy produce but also champions environmentally conscious practices – all while offering produce at affordable pricing. "After three years of building up, we are slated to launch in May 2024 with a greenhouse operation that stands at the forefront of sustainable agriculture," says Jake Rupert, Director of Sales and Marketing for North Country Growers in Berlin, New Hampshire. "Through our sustainability approach, we set ourselves apart from other greenhouse growers," he added. "In addition to prioritizing yield and efficiency, we also utilize innovative technologies to minimize environmental impact."
Access to local markets
New Hampshire was chosen as a location due to the state's steadfast dedication to sustainable farming practices that resonated deeply with North Country Growers' founders. They were looking to establish their operation in an environment supportive of eco-conscious initiatives. "In addition, New Hampshire's strategic regional proximity offered logistical advantages, facilitating efficient distribution networks and ensuring swift access to local markets," Rupert commented.
In line with regional proximity, the company is strategically positioned to cater to the US market, leveraging regional programs to minimize food miles and maximize sustainability. "By implementing regional programs, we aim to efficiently distribute our products to minimize transportation distances, reducing carbon emissions and environmental impact. This commitment to sustainability resonates with consumers on both sides of the border, further solidifying North Country Growers' reputation as a responsible and eco-conscious provider of fresh produce."
Lettuce and herb products
North Country Growers will be offering a diverse array of premium lettuce offerings. "Through meticulous cultivation within our state-of-the-art greenhouse facilities, we prioritize quality and freshness, ensuring that each head of lettuce is packed with flavor and nutritional value." The company is now preparing the unveiling of its inaugural product lineup, which includes signature Romaine, Green Leaf, Red Leaf, and Bibb lettuce as well as Basil and Cilantro.
"While these initial offerings are poised to make a significant impact, we are already looking towards the horizon through expansion and diversification." Although details on specific new products are still under wraps, Rupert is able to share that demand for the company's products has been steadily on the rise. "It is fueled by a growing consumer preference for fresh, locally sourced produce and an increasing awareness for sustainable farming practices. As a result, we've been able to cultivate a loyal customer base."
