Kazakhstan's onion export surged, surpassing 86000 tons since the year's start, fuelled by QazTrade's initiatives. Negotiations with Russia and Uzbekistan enhanced market reach, benefiting local entrepreneurs. Record onion cultivation in 2023/2024, hitting 1.1 million tons, exceeded domestic demand fourfold. At the same time, the export activity demonstrated shipment of over 86 thousand tons of products at the beginning of the year.
However, April saw quality decline due to storage issues, reducing market value amidst increased supply from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
To counter such challenges, QazTrade and the Ministry of Agriculture are strategizing to secure domestic suppliers, and exploring new markets under Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin's guidance.
The Ministry debunked rumours of missing harvest parts, noting abundant production exceeding local needs, with annual onion output surpassing a million tons.
Despite hurdles, Kazakhstan's onion industry is flourishing, especially in Zhambyl, Almaty, and Turkestan regions, with internal demand at 315,000 tons annually.
