In Chandpur district of Chattogram, Bangladesh, potato growers have experienced a significant yield of the crop this season, alongside favorable market prices. Despite challenging weather conditions, including unexpected rainfall, the potato fields in the district have shown resilient growth, leading to a bountiful harvest. The harvested potatoes are now being sold in the open market at Tk40.00 per kg, with farmers receiving Tk20.00 per kg at the field level.
The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has identified Chandpur Sadar, Matlab Dakhshin, Matlab Uttar, Kochua, and Hajiganj subdistricts as the primary potato-producing areas within the district. Dr. Shafayet Ahammad Siddiqui, Deputy Director of the DAE in Chandpur, reported that potatoes have been cultivated on 7,110 hectares of land, slightly below the target of 7,500 hectares. Agriculturist Mobarak Hossain mentioned that over 85 percent of the potatoes have already been harvested, with the expectation to complete the harvest within the next month.
