At the Chernyshevskoye border crossing between Russia and Lithuania, authorities found contraband during a recent truck inspection.
Hidden amidst its cargo were 58 boxes of tomatoes from the Netherlands and 60 boxes of peppers from Spain. The accompanying documents stated that the goods originated from a member state of the Eurasian Economic Union and were in transit through the Moscow region.
The Kaliningrad Regional Customs Service confiscated 553 kilograms of prohibited produce. Officials announced plans to dispose of the seized vegetables by transporting them to a landfill and crushing them with a bulldozer. This fate also awaits 4,500 kilograms of berries, vegetables, and fruits from the European Union seized in prior days.
According to Rosselkhoznadzor's statements, the imported goods are sourced from friendly nations such as Egypt, Brazil, Turkey, Serbia, North Macedonia, and South Africa, among others.
