The Information and Culture Minister of Punjab, Azma Bokhari, reported a significant reduction in vegetable prices across Punjab, attributing this trend to the proactive measures taken by Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Bokhari refuted claims of rising vegetable prices as unfounded, providing current rates for various vegetables as evidence of the decline. For instance, first-grade potatoes are currently priced at Rs. 70 per kg, while second-grade ones are at Rs. 60 per kg. Similarly, onions have seen a drop from Rs. 250 to Rs. 100 per kg over the past three months. Prices for tomatoes and lady-finger have also decreased substantially.
The minister acknowledged a temporary increase in lemon prices due to higher demand but anticipated a reduction with the new season's arrival. Efforts to stabilize vegetable prices include weekly price control meetings led by CM Sharif and daily market inspections by administrative officials. These measures aim to ensure affordability, especially during significant occasions like Eid-ul-Adha.
