"New garlic harvest is over - high sea freight rates are dampening traders' enthusiasm to buy"

The new garlic harvest began in May and is now nearly complete across various production areas. Suppliers have started accepting orders, and the first batch of sea-shipped garlic will be dispatched soon.

Mr. Wang, head of the sales department at Jining Shangzhuo Food Co., Ltd., explained, "Due to low temperatures early in the season, the market expected a reduced garlic yield. However, favorable weather during the harvest, with no rain, has resulted in high-quality garlic this season."

He noted that recent market prices for garlic have been inconsistent. Many merchants are eager to ship large packages on the first shipping date, which has driven prices up. "We just received an order for a large package of 5.0-grade garlic at the FOB price of 1220 USD/ton (approximate, subject to fluctuations)."

"On the export front, demand has generally increased recently, but rising shipping costs since May have significantly driven up the cost of garlic exports. Currently, shipping from Qingdao Port to NWC Ports is around 6700-7000 USD/container, greatly increasing export costs."

In addition to garlic, Jining Shangzhuo Food Co., Ltd. also exports ginger, onions, apples, and pears. The company holds GAR, BRC, and Sedex certifications.
