Growers in Zhejiang Province, China, are strategizing to enhance the exportation of waxberries to additional countries beyond their current markets in Europe and Southeast Asia. Utilizing greenhouses in Qingtian County, the waxberries are harvested and promptly transported for sorting and packaging, before being dispatched to Pudong Airport for delivery to European destinations such as Madrid. Xia Xiaoqing, representing a local trade company, outlined the process stating, "This shipment consists of a total of 450 boxes of waxberries for export to for Spain. They were picked in the morning, packaged in the factory in the afternoon, and shipped to Shanghai in the evening, and should be able to arrive in Madrid in 24 hours."
The waxberry, celebrated for its taste and nutritional benefits, faces challenges due to its brief shelf life. Innovations in anti-atomization cold chain packaging have been adopted by producers in Qingtian County to maintain freshness during transportation. With these advancements, Qingtian waxberries can now reach 146 cities within China and have been successfully exported to Europe and Southeast Asia, achieving a sales volume of 370,000 euros from over 20 tons of waxberries in 2023.
Plans are underway to expand exports to include Britain, France, Singapore, and Indonesia, with expectations to double the sales volume compared to the previous year.
