Pakistan successfully exports its first shipment of fresh cherries to China

Pakistan has successfully exported its first shipment of fresh cherries to China, marking a significant development in the agricultural sector of both countries. This initiative comes under a phytosanitary agreement signed in 2022, enabling Pakistani cherries to enter the Chinese market.

The shipment was dispatched using reefer containers, with a target to export 260 tonnes by the end of June. This venture is expected to have a positive impact on the economy of Pakistan's Gilgit-Baltistan region, where these cherries are cultivated. The region, known for its diverse fruit production, benefits from an ideal climatic condition that contributes to the unique taste of its cherries.

Cherries, highly regarded in China for their rich color and sweet flavor, are anticipated to be well-received due to cultural preferences for fruit that is both aesthetically pleasing and delicious. This export opportunity could significantly benefit local growers in Pakistan by providing access to the world's largest cherry market.
