Frutania Ltd on the exclusive Aldina strawberry concept in cooperation with Aldi Süd

"We invest large sums every year to obtain new varieties and technologies"

A few weeks ago, the latest innovation on Aldi Süd's strawberry shelves, called Aldina, saw the light of day(FreshPlaza.de reported). The tasty and long-lasting strawberry variety is cultivated exclusively by a total of eleven producers from the Frutania Group, which are based in various growing regions in Germany. "With Aldina, Aldi Süd is focussing on a broader range of strawberries. The strong positioning is intended to appeal to different consumer groups. In addition, the variety is only grown in protected, resource-conserving cultivation on plots and is associated with clear quality specifications. In this respect, Aldina also contains a promise of quality," the Frutania management reports.

Dr Markus Schmitt from Sonnenbergerhof is one of the selected Aldina producers.

Despite the difficult weather conditions, customer feedback to date has been pleasing. "What characterises the variety is the flavour, the firm fruit skin and flesh, excellent shelf life and the conical fruit shape. Together with production, we are continuously working on the quality of our strawberries. On the other hand, the low yield is currently one of the biggest challenges."

Trend towards exclusivity on the fruit shelf
The variety concept is a complete package that includes not only the strong producer group, the special variety and the cultivation method, but also the efficient logistics of the Frutania Group. The strategy of exclusivity will continue to be pursued in the coming years. "We invest large sums every year to obtain new varieties and techniques. This also enables us to offer exclusive programmes. Conceptually, we will also look into other varieties," concludes the company.
