Mushrooms in brine recalled in Germany and Spain due to toxin contamination

The German health authorities have reported, through the European Food Alert Network (RASFF), the detection of toxins in canned mushrooms of the TPYZAH brand, distributed in some areas of Germany and Spain. The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) reported that the affected product was distributed in the autonomous communities of Andalusia, Catalonia, and the Canary Islands. Authorities do not rule out the possibility that the product may have been redistributed to other communities.

Botulinum toxin, which can cause botulism if consumed, has been detected in these mushrooms preserved in brine. As a precautionary measure, authorities have advised anybody that has this product not to consume it. The competent authorities of the affected autonomous communities have been informed about the issue to ensure that the affected products are withdrawn from the distribution channels.

If you have consumed the product and experience symptoms compatible with botulism, such as fatigue, weakness, blurred vision, dry mouth, difficulty swallowing and speaking, vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal pain, immediately go to a health center.
