Colombia increases fruit exports by 29% in 2024

In the first four months of 2024, Colombian fruit exports, excluding bananas, have increased by 29%, going from $156 million last year to $201 million. This increase highlights the strength and quality of Colombian fruits at the international level, according to the Colombian Institute of Statistics (Dane).

Hass avocado exports increased by 28% and Tahiti lime exports by 57%. Gulupa, gooseberry, and mango exports also show positive variations. Javier Díaz Molina, president of Analdex, highlighted that Colombia can harvest fruit all year round, contributing significantly to the non-mining-energy sector with 2.9% of total external sales.

Meeting phytosanitary requirements in key destination markets is crucial to maintain this momentum. Jorge Riaño, Novacampo's manager, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors to overcome the challenges in fruit exports. Colombia exports fruits to more than 50 countries. The main destinations are the Netherlands, the United States, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and Spain. Exports to Belgium and the United States have increased by 233% and 73%, respectively.

The departments of Antioquia, Cundinamarca, Risaralda, Santander, and Valle del Cauca are the main growing regions. Antioquia is leading the increase in exports.
