Míriam Cutillas, from Uvasdoce Fresh:

"We are starting the domestic table grape campaign with 30% growth in terms of volume"

The table grape season is starting in the Spanish province of Alicante with lower volumes than expected due to some problems with the flowering. In spite of this, the company Uvasdoce Fresh expects to increase its production by around 30%.

"We are wrapping up a difficult, but record-breaking import season, with a 60% increase in the number of kilos handled compared to 2023," says Míriam Cutillas, Sales and Marketing Director of Uvasdoce Fresh. "Our domestic table grape campaign is starting now, on week 27, with our earliest varieties. It is shaping up to be a season of further growth, automation, new varieties and many challenges, both in the field and in the warehouse," she says.

"This year's weather conditions have been challenging, but we expect amazing results. We have put special emphasis on bunch trimming, on adjusting the load per vine, thus achieving homogeneous bunches with the best organoleptic characteristics," she says.

"Our production volume growing by 30%, the implementation of the new heat protocol and the rise of salaries and other costs are some of our challenges this season," says Míriam Cutillas.

"Due to the possible high temperatures during the harvesting season, and complying with the new Government regulations, we have already implemented the new Heat Protocol, which is meant to protect the health and wellbeing of our workers. This will make delivering all orders in a timely manner especially challenging," says the company's sales and marketing manager.

"There has also been an increase in production costs, and there will be a lower volume of grapes available than expected during the flowering period. In spite of this, we are expecting a very good campaign when it comes to quality thanks to the hard work of the technical and field cultivation teams," she says.
