Cambodia witnessed a notable increase in agricultural product exports in the first half of 2024, reaching 6.13 million tonnes, a 57 percent rise from the 3.9 million tonnes recorded in the previous year, according to a Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) report. The revenue from these exports saw an uptick to USD2.85 billion during the January-June period, marking an almost 19 percent increase from USD2.4 billion in the corresponding period last year.
The array of exported agricultural commodities encompassed rice, rubber, cassava, mangoes, fresh bananas, pepper, cashew nuts, longan, corn, and palm oil. Key markets for these products included Vietnam, Thailand, China, and South Korea. The agricultural sector, highlighted as a cornerstone of Cambodia's economy, complements other economic activities such as garment and footwear exports, tourism, and the construction and real estate industry.
MAFF's Minister Dith Tina emphasized Cambodia's achievement in ensuring food security and producing agricultural products exceeding domestic demand for exports. In 2023, the country exported over eight million tonnes of agricultural goods, generating close to USD5 billion in revenue.
